Car insurance rates are dropping, and experts say rates will continue to drop over the next year.

The Florida Department of Insurance Regulation recently announced Florida’s top five auto writer insurance groups reported an average 6.5% drop in rates.

A huge flip from the previous year when rates jumped up 4%.

So, what’s behind the lower rates?

Experts are pointing to changes in Florida’s insurance law. Recent reform is credited with helping to reduce insurance litigation.

“This made a huge change because now the attorneys have to look at the cases in merit and present them in merit. What has happened? This year alone, insurance rates has already gone down,” Richard Estrella with Estrella Insurance said.

Estrella says that with rates dropping, now is the time for consumers to shop around.

“You have to be shopping now. Whatever you pay three months ago, it's going to be cheaper now. Like it is a race to the bottom,” Estrella said.

Estrella says before you begin shopping around, make sure you understand the ins and outs of your current policy.
